Who we are

Klink Languages is a language-learning application operated by Jasper Bloem. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at [email protected].

What data we collect

We collect and store the following personal data:

  • Account data — your name, email address, and hashed password.
  • Language preferences — your native language, target language, and daily learning goal.
  • Learning data — your vocabulary decks, individual words, practice sessions, answers, streak count, XP, and mastery scores.
  • Usage data — the number of scans you have performed in a given month.
  • Scan content — when you scan a note or document, the image or extracted text is sent to Anthropic's API for AI processing. This content is not stored on our servers beyond the duration of the request.

Legal basis

We process your personal data on the basis of performance of contract (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR) — the processing is necessary to provide the Klink Languages service you have signed up for.

Sub-processors

We share your data with the following third parties acting as processors:

  • Hetzner Online GmbH (Germany, EU) — server hosting and infrastructure. Hetzner privacy policy →
  • Anthropic PBC (United States) — AI processing of scan images and vocabulary generation. Data is transferred on the basis of Standard Contractual Clauses. Anthropic privacy policy →
  • Transactional email provider — used to send verification and account emails. Only your email address is shared for this purpose.

How long we keep your data

Your personal data is retained for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time via your profile settings, which permanently removes all your data from our systems. Accounts that have been inactive for more than 2 years may be deleted automatically.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Have inaccurate data corrected.
  • Have your data erased ("right to be forgotten").
  • Restrict or object to the processing of your data.
  • Receive your data in a portable format.

To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.

Supervisory authority

If you believe your rights have not been respected, you can lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens): autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl.
